after studying on corrosion for many years ..."It is not mainly about reduction in reinforcement bar area. In many of my experimental studies, the number of ruptered reinforcement bars were very less, almost none...It is all about initial corrosion crack widths... That's why we published that paper in ASTM....

Moreover, they falsely indicate higher ductility for corroded RC columns than non-corroded columns, despite the fact that corroded RC columns absorb less energy prior to failure. Therefore, an energy-based comparison is highly recommended for the determination of the ductility index of corroded RC columns.
